**PRESS* *CONFERENCE*
**TOPIC**
THE WAY FORWARD FOR THE CHOICE OF A PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE (PC) FOR THE NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY (NPP) IN THE LA DADEKOTOPON CONSTITUENCY.

————————————–

We humbly and with all due respect; extends our regards to the NPP and the Leadership at all levels of the New Patriotic Party, our only hope for best governance in Ghana.

We especially with the greatest of respect had previously petitioned the National Leadership of the Party, Regional Leadership of the Party, Constituency Leadership of the Party and most importantly the esteemed seat of the Presidency of the Republic of Ghana.
We are aware there are various deliberation in the matter at hand which is that ” We a section of the party and the majority as such are of the honest opinion that the choice of a PC to lead our Constituency shall be by way of a *Contest* and not any other means especially imposition of a person on us.
It has come to our notice and information that there is a very “vicious and clandestine manouvres” to declare and impose a “certain person” as the PC on the good people of La, specifically referring to the NPP supporters and Party Fraternity including all the Polling station Executives.
We are also aware that a meeting was held on the 21st of February, 2024 at the National
Headquarters of the NPP and there is an indication that the National Executive Council and the National Council may be leaning more towards or may have even taken the grave and erraneous decision of imposing a candidate on the people of La. We are of the opinion that it will not work for us unless our decision is a makeshift one.
We are organizing this *Press* *Conference* to unequivocally and categorically do respectfully appeal to the conscience of the powers that be at all levels, National, Regional and Constituency Party of the NPP to mediate in this matter and ensure that the right decision is arrived at by opening for a short contest, if even only 7-days will be allowed for campaign.

We are of the firm opinion that taking a decision of *imposition* would have denied the people of La the right to choose their own PC.
It is our position and we as a “group ‘ do vehemently stand by that; that the only way forward to bring the needed and required *unity to break the 8* in our Constituency is to respectfully and professional run and go for a *’Fair Contest*’ in the choice of our PC.
We will just mention but a few pertinent reasons why we must go for a contest in selecting our PC:
1. We declared and did acclamation of Dr. Joseph Gerald Tetteh Nyanyofio to lead us into the 2024. For the records, nobody came forward to to pick a nomination form but for some strange reasons which is not the reason for this Petition; Dr. Nyantofio was compelled to step down by some powers that be.
The reasons for his stepping down has not been made public to the membership of the party at the Constituency, and for this reason alone if not for anything at all, will not give us the believe that acclamation of a person will be good for us at least for now.
2. We hope and believe that if we select our PC through and by way of a Contest, the group that may not be so fortunate can be easily convinced to join the winning train to face any Political Party in the Constituency. The obvious alternative to a contest will mean ‘it is your ‘Candidate ‘, go with him’. At this crucial time we want *Unity* at all cost hence there must be a contest 3. At least and if for nothing at all some individuals have expressed interest to be elected to lead the Party in the Constituency and have spent both time and money and other resources to kick start their Political believe to effectively lead the Party in the Constituency. It lies in their Constitutional Right as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana and the Constitutional Provisions as enshrined in Article 12 of the NPP Constitution to be given the right to Contest and humbly pray that such a “Right” should not be denied by the Party they so love and cherish.
4. We are hopeful that by allowing the Polling Station Executives/delegates the
Constitutional Right to vote for who they prefer to lead the Party into the 2024 elections will bring everybody on board for us to achieve the required goal.

5. We will like to point out that even in a supposedly strong Constituencies with strong Parliamentary Candidates, such individuals allowed themselves to be contested, because genuinely they know what they can deliver and are capable to do; special mention can be made of Dr. Okoe Boye of Ledzokuku Constituency, Nii Noi of Klottey Korley, Henry Quartey of Ayawaso Central just to mention but a few.
Why do the Party want to take such a divisive decision when it comes to La Dadekotopon Constituency.
We will at this juncture rely on these five pertinent reasons to urge the Leadership of the NPP to allow a *contest* in order to elect a PC for our Constituency.
We hope and believe the National Party led by the National Chairman, Regional Party led by the Regional Chairman and Secretary will not fail the aspirations of the NPP fraternity in the
La Dadekotopon Constituency to be involved and be part of the choice of their PC.
We also will urge our Constituency Chairman for La Dadekotopon to assist and ensure that the right decision is taken.

We don’t want a situation where we will be pointing fingers at the leadership of the NPP by saying that”the PC is their Choice and not Our choice” to further bring disunity in the La Dadekotopon Constituency.
We do appreciate and thank you so much for the audience given us today.
Long live the New Patriotic Party, long live the Elephant, long live Ghana.
