The Eastern Regional secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed concern about absentee Parliamentary Candidates in the region.
This was contained In a statement issued and signed by the regional secretary, Jamal Konneh.
According to him,
Per their quarterly evaluation of all Parliamentary Candidates in the Eastern Region, it has come to their notice that some Parliamentary Candidates have been absent for the past seven month from their constituencies ever since they were voted in as Parliamentary Candidates. The reason being that they have travelled outside the country.
Apart from the Parliamentary Candidate for Suhum Constituency, who sought permission from REC to travel outside the country, the remaining three candidates have never given any excuse for their absence and have been away for seven good months.
REC, however, gives January 31, 2024, as the deadline for all absentee Parliamentary Candidates to return to their constituencies or find their positions fielded by new candidates by REC in consultation with FEC. This will help get candidates who are ready to win the seats for the party.
Also, we expect them to remain in Ghana and, for that matter, their constituencies and be part of the campaigns from February 1, 2024, until December 7, 2024.
However, our evaluation on the Parliamentary Candidates continues without fail and that, all Parliamentary Candidates who are in Ghana but showing lackadaisical attitudes towards the work should change for the better or risk losing their positions to new candidates.
