The Minister for Transport,Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah has received the feasibly report on the possible Airport in either Central or Western Region from the Consultant, Ayeh and Ayeh.

The Government of Ghana hired a consultant to undertake the studies for a possible establishment of Airport in a strategically area in either the Central or Western Region or in between to serve air travel needs.

The Airport project is targeting at boosting the tourism potential and for cargo purposes in the two Regions.

After a thorough study carried out in the two regions, the Consultant Ayeh and Ayeh, has come out with some findings and recommendation for Government to judge and select where to build the Airport.

Receiving the bulky document, the Minister for Transport, Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah assured Ghanaians that, the outcome of the report would be presented to Cabinet for scrutiny and approvals before any proper work can be done.

He stressed that, the selection of where to build the Airport is the sole prerogative of the Cabinet and not the Ministry but said he is optimistic that it would not take a longer period for Cabinet to come out with their final decision.

In an interview, the Consultant hired for the study, ING. Leslie Alex Ayeh disclosed that the project is more of a cargo centered than passenger service saying, that is what can fetch more money to the government.

He pointed out that, if Ghana want to be part of the Global value chain, there is the need to open up the market and increase connectivity.

ING. Leslie revealed that, there is a direct link between improve connectivity and the standard of living saying, riches are shared but poverty are not shared and that, the people lives a better lifestyle when industries are improved because, things are expensive when the market is limited to only small area.

The Airport project he stated, is going to create more jobs for the people including taxi drivers including those in the hotels business etc.

However, per the Consultant recommendation, one can deduced that the best place to build the Airport would be Komenda but only Cabinet have the final authority to select where it can be located.
