Julius Debrah, the former Chief of Staff to ex-President John Dramani Mahama, has emerged as a pivotal figure responsible for the formidable strength and success of Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer. Revered for his affable nature, hardworking ethos, and strategic acumen, Debrah’s influence on the political landscape remains unparalleled.
Debrah’s reputation as a non-discriminative political personality, renowned for his humility and charitable endeavors, has solidified his place as a prominent figure in Ghanaian politics. His name is synonymous with humility, a trait that transcends age, class, and status, making him a go-to figure for guidance and support.
Born on April 24, 1966, Debrah hails from Obomeng Kwahu in the Eastern Region of Ghana. He pursued his education at Mpraeso Secondary School, Achimota Secondary School, and the University of Ghana, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Archaeology and Sociology. His academic foundation, coupled with his business acumen, positioned him as a successful player in both the business and political realms.
Debrah’s political journey saw him contest the parliamentary seat for the NDC in an area traditionally considered a stronghold of the opposing NPP. Despite facing formidable opposition, he admirably upheld the NDC’s principles and values during challenging times, earning recognition for his unwavering dedication and loyalty.
While Debrah did not secure the parliamentary seat, his tireless efforts were duly acknowledged, leading to his appointment as Regional Minister for both the Eastern and Greater Accra regions. His service extended to the Ministry of Local Government before he assumed the pivotal role of Chief of Staff, acting as the chief servant to the nation’s highest office.
One of Debrah’s notable achievements was his instrumental role in restructuring and elevating Ghana’s Tourism industry, transforming it into a vital contributor to the nation’s economy. His tenure as CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority saw the industry thrive under his strategic guidance and support for industry players.
However, Debrah’s most enduring legacy remains his exceptional partnership with President John Dramani Mahama. Their harmonious working relationship, marked by strategic leadership, humility, and mutual respect, endured even during the challenging period of seven years in opposition. Debrah’s unparalleled servantship to Mahama exemplifies dedication beyond the ordinary.
The values epitomized by Julius Debrah hold the potential to galvanize support for the NDC among the undecided middle class, youth, and diverse voter groups. As the NDC seeks to secure its place as the ultimate choice for Ghana’s electorate, the legacy of Julius Debrah stands as a beacon of inspiration and unity.
