Story by Lawrence Kumah
The newly elected Ashanti Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah popularly known as Coka has expressed worry about the direction politics is taking in this country.
He noted that serious issues concerning development, job craetion , education ,health and the rest have been reduced to insult , name calling, and personal attacks on both social and traditional media.
This he said does not win political power but rather shuts down the debate and for that matter repels some fine brains from entering into politics because they percieve it to be muddy and dirty.
Chaiman Coka made this remarks at a media engagement in Kumasi to to express his profound gratitude to the rank and file of the NPP in the Ashanti region particlarly the media during the regional chairmanship contest which saw him emerged victorious
Politics he said should be a contest of ideas not a contest of who can shout the loudest or say the most hurtful thing.
He therefore urged political parties to train their communicators to argue devoid of insult and and sanction those that cross the line and reward those that communicate with decorum.
Chairman Kwaku Appiah how ever urged the media to put the government on it’s toes and also set agenda that is development driven to enable the Ashanti region also gets it’s fair share of the national cake.
He took the opportunity to render an unresrved apology to the media fraternity in the region on behalf of the NPP for any disconnection between the media and the NPP as he called for a more stronger bond between the two to work together for mother Ghana.
The regional NPP Chairman tries to strengthen the friendship by announcing plans to take the full cost of the annual end of year get- together of the Ashanti regional branch of the Ghana Journalist Association(GJA) for this year.
