The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has extended his warm congratulations to Mr. Richard Akpokavie following his election as President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), alongside the newly elected executive members.

In a message on behalf of the Ministry and the Government of Ghana, Hon. Adams described their election as a clear testament to the trust and confidence the Olympic and sports fraternity has placed in their leadership and vision. He emphasized that their tenure marks the beginning of a promising chapter for Ghanaian sports development.

The Minister pledged the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with the GOC to advance the national sports agenda. He highlighted plans to deepen engagement with national federations, strengthen governance structures, and establish sustainable funding mechanisms to support both elite and grassroots sports.

Hon. Adams called for urgent attention to the completion of the OlympAfrica Juvenile Sports Excellence Centre at Amasaman, noting its importance as a pivotal hub for nurturing talent and promoting Olympic excellence.

He also encouraged the GOC to leverage resources from the Olympic Solidarity Fund and other avenues within the Olympic Movement to enhance athlete training programs, develop technical officials, and improve sports infrastructure.

Expressing concern over the limited representation of women in the newly elected GOC leadership, the Minister urged the new administration to prioritize gender inclusion. He stressed that the active participation of women is a key marker of progress toward inclusive and representative sports governance in Ghana.
