The Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has criticized the government for distributing expired rice to senior high schools under the Free SHS feeding program. Speaking during her campaign tour in Sorbelle, Sissala West Constituency, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang described the act as “shameful and insensitive,” expressing disbelief at the government’s decision to knowingly supply unwholesome food to students.
Her remarks followed revelations by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, that expired rice had been rebagged and relabeled with extended expiry dates before being distributed to schools. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang argued that students deserve better treatment and nutritious meals, especially as education remains key to the nation’s development.
She further lamented the decline in Ghana’s education sector under the current administration and assured the people that the next NDC government would prioritize restoring quality education. Highlighting infrastructural challenges in the Sissala area, she criticized the abandonment of road projects initiated by the previous Mahama administration.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged voters to reject the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections and return the NDC to power, promising a renewed focus on completing stalled projects and improving living standards in the region.
