The Kuenyehia Trust for Contemporary Art has officially opened submissions for the 2024 edition of the Kuenyehia Prize for Contemporary Art. The competition, which aims to support and develop the careers of West African visual artists, is inviting entries from artists between the ages of 18 and 40.

Eligible artworks include paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, carvings, and installations. Artists have until December 22, 2024, to submit their work through the prize’s website, www.kuenyehiaprize.org, to compete for a total prize of $10,000.

The winner will be announced in February 2025 by an independent jury that will evaluate the submissions based on the artist’s statement and the overall trajectory of their work. In addition to the prize money, shortlisted artists will benefit from the Trust’s Creative Accelerator Programme, which offers intensive training, mentoring, and exposure to global best practices.

These artists will also gain the opportunity to showcase their work at both local and international exhibitions and art fairs, making the competition a powerful career booster. Previous winners have exhibited at prestigious platforms like the FNB Johannesburg Art Fair, with their work showcased in countries such as South Africa, the United States, and Spain.

Established by Professor Elikem Nutifafa Kuenyehia, the Kuenyehia Prize for Contemporary Art aims to highlight excellence in African contemporary art, reward outstanding artists, and inspire future generations to create work that resonates with both local and international audiences.
