The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, has urged constituents of the Mfantseman Constituency in the Central Region to vote against their sitting Member of Parliament (MP), Madam Ophelia Hayford, in the upcoming December general elections, citing non-performance as the key reason for her removal.
Mr. Gyamfi made these remarks during a series of community engagements in the fishing communities of Abandze and Kromantse, as part of his campaign tour of the Central Region, alongside the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
He criticized Madam Hayford’s track record, alleging that she has failed to make any significant contributions on the floor of Parliament, branding her as a “non-performing MP” who simply “adds up to the numbers.” According to Mr. Gyamfi, the MP’s inability to advocate effectively for her constituents has stifled the development of the Mfantseman Constituency.
In contrast, Mr. Gyamfi praised the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Dr. Prince Kojo Arhin, describing him as a dynamic and accomplished professional with a distinguished career in Human Resource management. He assured the constituents that Dr. Arhin would provide “decent and quality representation” if elected as their MP, unlike the current incumbent.
“The people of Mfantseman need proper representation, not someone who has become known as a ‘yea yea MP’ without meaningful impact in Parliament,” Mr. Gyamfi said, urging the electorate to vote for Dr. Arhin for a change.
During the event, the chief of Kromantse appealed for assistance to complete a stalled community center project. Responding to the plea, the NDC delegation donated GHS10,000 on behalf of the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, as a gesture of goodwill.
The NDC’s Central Region tour continues as the party seeks to consolidate support ahead of the December polls.
