The Minority Leader in Parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has urged the people of Mankessim to vote against the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration in the upcoming general elections, holding the ruling government responsible for what he describes as the destruction of Ghana’s economy. He called on the electorate to send a strong message to politicians that they cannot take the people for granted.

Addressing a gathering of teachers, traders, artisans, and religious leaders in Mankessim in the Mfantseman Constituency, Dr. Forson blamed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for driving the country into financial hardship through reckless borrowing and mismanagement. He highlighted how Ghana’s debt stock had skyrocketed from GHS120 billion in 2016 to GHS761 billion under the NPP government, with very little to show for the borrowing.

“The Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has inflicted severe hardship on Ghanaians, and rewarding them with another term would only perpetuate their economic destruction,” Dr. Forson stated. He further accused the government of taking away people’s hard-earned investments through the controversial debt exchange programme, describing it as an “act of wickedness” that voters must punish at the polls.

He urged the audience to support the vision of former President John Dramani Mahama, assuring them that the NDC, if elected, would implement policies to transform the economy and support micro and small businesses. Dr. Forson also reiterated President Mahama’s pledge to establish a modern market for Mankessim, similar to the Kotokuraba market built by the NDC in Cape Coast.

As part of his campaign tour of the Central Region, Dr. Ato Forson emphasized that the upcoming elections would determine the future of the country and encouraged voters to back the NDC for meaningful change.
