The Christ the King Catholic (CTK) Church, led by the Young Christian Workers Movement (YCWM), has organised a blood donation exercise complemented by essential health aimed at promoting community health and wellness among parisscreeningshioners.
The CTK has a history of consistency in organising blood donation drives, partnering with the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, the Ridge Hospital, and the 37 Military Hospital.
Last Sunday, however, the church expanded its offerings to include vital health screenings for eye, breast, prostate, and dental care with medical professionals from the Mamobi Polyclinic, the Ridge Hospital, the Police Hospital, and the National Blood Service on-site to provide these essential services.
Dr. Edward Kofi Boakye, a Urologist, emphasised the importance of regular prostate checks, encouraging attendees to prioritise their health stressing, “early detection can save lives” as he advised Ghanaians to schedule regular health check-ups and to not hesitate in seeking medical advice for any concerning symptoms.
“Your health is your wealth. Do not wait until it is too late to act,” he added.
The President of the YCWM at CTK, Ms. Lucy Dzata, highlighted the rationale behind the health day exercise, saying, “we wanted to provide our parish and the larger Ghanaian public with accessible health services and raise awareness about preventive care.”
She said it was essential for everyone to take charge of their health and underscored the significance of the health day, intimating, “In our busy lives, we often neglect our health. This event serves as a reminder that taking care of us is not just a personal responsibility but a communal one.”

Looking to the future, Ms. Dzata expressed excitement about ongoing health initiatives with the aim to empower parishioners of the church to prioritise their health and well-being.
“We aim to create a more robust health awareness program that includes regular workshops and screenings. By continuously engaging our community, we hope to foster a culture where health is a priority for everyone,” she said.
The president urged parishioners to share their experiences and advocate for their friends and family to participate in future health events, reinforcing the idea that collective efforts lead to a healthier community.
Lending support to the event, the Parish Priest at the CTK, Rev. Fr. Ebenezer Akesseh, expressed gratitude for the turnout and the partnerships that made the event possible.
“It is heartening to see our parishioners come together for such a worthy cause. This reflects our commitment to both spiritual and physical well-being. I encourage everyone to take advantage of these health services and to make regular check-ups a part of their routine,” he emphasised.
Some parishioners who participated in the exercise shared their thoughts saying the initiative has encouraged them to be more proactive about their health.
