The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has successfully provided young Ghanaians with valuable skill development opportunities through a recently held Job Fair at Independence Square, Accra. The 14-day event, organized in collaboration with The Ghana Report, aimed at equipping participants with practical skills to enhance their employability and entrepreneurial potential.
In an interview, Alhaji Bashiru Rahim, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of YEA in charge of Operations, disclosed that 2,356 young people acquired various skills during the fair. He expressed the agency’s excitement at the success of the program, highlighting the impact it would have on the beneficiaries. According to him, those trained are expected to impart their knowledge to others, further extending the reach of the initiative.
Alhaji Rahim emphasized that YEA’s primary goal is to help the youth secure sustainable job opportunities. He revealed that some participants were recruited by security agencies, while private sector organizations also took on a number of graduates during the fair.
To support the trainees in their ventures, YEA provided them with free tools necessary for their trades, alongside a seed capital of GHS 1, 000 each. Alhaji Rahim encouraged young people to take advantage of the opportunities provided by YEA, expressing confidence that the skills acquired would propel them into successful careers.
“Unemployment affects everyone, regardless of political affiliation,” he said, stressing the importance of initiatives like the Job Fair in addressing the nation’s unemployment challenges.
