GNECS distrubutes 3000 cooked eggs to promote nutritional benefits

The Ghana National Egg Campaign Secretariat (GNECS) has prepared and distrubuted 3000 cooked eggs to the residents of Jumapo and it’s environs as part of the drive to sensitised the citizenry about the essential health and nutritional values of the consumption of eggs.

The event also forms part of the launch of the 8th edition of Ofie Kwanso ( Jumapo Home Coming) to mark the celebration of Akwasidae festival of the Chiefs and people of Jumapo in the Eastern Region.

GNECS was also supported by the American Soybean Association, World Initiative For Soy In Human Health (ASAWISHH) as well as various donations of 100 trays of eggs from Dormaa Ahenkro George Gyawu farms and Nick Jay Enterprise with additional 15 trays of eggs from Members of the planning committee of the Jumapo Home Coming.

Side attractions to grace the occasion were egg dish cooking competition by 7 churches namely Jumapo

Methodist, Presby, Apostolic, Assemblies of God, Full Gospel, Pentecost and Mosques.

In his regard, Methodist church was declared winners followed by Apostolic and Pentecost as the second runner up.

The Coordinator of GNECS, Dr. Comfort Kyerewaa Acheampong said in 2014 America Soya Bean Association partnered GNECS and organised a program to boost egg production and address the myths and misconceptions about eggs.

“GNECS used the occasion to engage the Chiefs and people of Jumapo to celebrate the Akwasidae festival as the youth also launched their year home coming” she lamented and said the Secretariat joined hands with them and gave out 100 trays of eggs.

According to her, it was distrubuted free as part of the awareness creation at vantage points in Jumapo and it’s environs with Nutrition Officer of the Ghana Health Service ( GHS) from New Juabeng North in the company of dieticians and doctors who took part in an open forum in the egg campaign.

Dr. Comfort Acheampong urged government to give subsidy to poultry farmers to enable them produce more eggs at affordable price.

For her part, the Nutrition Officer for the New Juaben North Municipal Health Directorate, Madam Alfredina Kulah urged parents to add eggs to their children’s food for a healthy growth.
