Yeji, Bono East Region, The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Pru East District has organized a dialogue meeting with political parties, the Electoral Commission (EC), and other stakeholders to promote peaceful and credible elections in the upcoming 2024 polls.

The meeting, held at the Methodist Church brought together representatives from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), New Patriotic Party (NPP), and other political parties, security agencies, and civil society organizations.
Unfortunately, officials of the electoral commission were absent from the program.

However the NCCE’s District Director, Mr. Emmanuel Nimo emphasized the importance of peaceful elections and encouraged participants to commit to violence-free campaigns. “We want to ensure that our elections are characterized by peace, transparency, and fairness,” he said.

In the absence of the EC’s District Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Nimo explained to the meeting the reason to their absence since some of the political parties raised concerns of the absence of the EC.

*The NDC party at the program led by the constituency secretary, Hon. Dzidzorvu Amuzu brought to the attention of the stakeholders of the meeting that the EC of the Pru East District made a transfer of One thousand, two hundred and ninety-two(1292) per their agents recordings during the registration processes. At the exhibition process, the NDC as a party discovered that the transfer figure has raised from the “1292” to Three thousand, two hundred and fifteen(3215)*

*They also alleged that the EC has registered about Eighty(80) proxy members without their presence at the registration center*

*Upon their notic of this abnormalities, they have officially petitioned the EC to do the needful if the purpose of the meeting is for peace in the elections.*

The stakeholders also discussed issues such as electoral security, voter education, and the role of traditional authorities in promoting peace.

The dialogue meeting is part of the NCCE’s efforts to promote peaceful elections and foster a culture of tolerance and respect among political parties and their supporters.

By bringing together key stakeholders, the NCCE aims to address potential electoral conflicts and ensure a smooth and peaceful electoral process in the Pru East District.

The representative of the Yeji Traditional Council Nana Owusu Ansah who chaired the program expressed disappointment in some of the political leaders and officials for the fact that whilst the country is crying for peace in elections, these selfish leaders will be doing manipulations to their favor and inciting individuals to defend their criminality. He alluded the EC’s declaration of the 2020 elections results with wrong percentages(%) which brought a lot of dissatisfaction in that election.

As the 2024 elections approach, the NCCE’s initiative has been hailed as a crucial step towards promoting democratic governance and stability in Ghana.
