The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for an urgent meeting with the Electoral Commission (EC) over what it describes as significant discrepancies in the ongoing 2024 voter exhibition exercise.
The party’s concerns were raised by its General Secretary, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, who pointed out that these discrepancies were discovered through a thorough analysis of the Provisional Voter Register (PVR) provided to them by the EC, which does not match the voter register currently being exhibited at the various centers.
Sources indicate that some of the discrepancies include instances where registered voters’ names are missing from the exhibited register, qualified voters being erroneously placed on the exception, or multiple lists, and disqualified individuals who were due to multiple registrations or successful challenges are still appearing on the main PVR.
Furthermore, some voters have reportedly been transferred without their knowledge, with old transfers still appearing on the register.
Another significant concern raised is the process earlier this year that allowed voters to apply for proxy voting without proper biometrics verification.

Hon. Kwetey emphasized the seriousness of the issue, stressing the importance of ensuring the integrity of the electoral process as Ghana approaches the 2024 general elections. He expressed hope that the EC will respond swiftly and positively to their request for a meeting, as the NDC seeks to resolve these discrepancies in order to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections. “Our expectation is that the EC will respond swiftly and favourably to our request for a meeting, as we seek to resolve the discrepancies in a manner that promotes free, fair, and transparent elections”, he said.

The NDC’s move underscores the party’s commitment to upholding the democratic process and ensuring that all eligible voters are accurately represented in the final voter register. The outcome of this meeting could have significant implications for the credibility of the upcoming election.
