Gomoa Bantama – Adade- Millennium City Zongo Chief, Chief Abdul – Rahman Abubakar (a.k.a) Taller has held a forum recently at Gomoa Bantama for his subjects to be educated on the role of citizen and the police.
Speaking at the function which was well attended by residents of Gomoa Bantama- Adade- Millennium City, the spokesperson and secretary of chief Abubakar in the person of Mr. Ali Hussein Temteh interpreted the education by the police at the forum to the residents.
Mr. Ali Hussein noted that Chief Abubakar who is also a Peace Ambassador, organized the function to educate the youth to comport themselves well during the fourth coming General Elections.
Mr. Ali Hussein further said that the police have Commended Chief (Sariki) Abubakar for gathering a large audience for a peace message for the youth to be law abiding. He told the gathering that according to the police ,their area falls under Central East Police Region with their Headquarters at Millennium City, adding that as Political Regions they are 16, Whilst Police Regions are 25, for the police to be very close to the people as the IGP had earlier indicated.
He explained that for the Central East Police Region where they belong DCOP Mr. Owusu Bempah is the Regional Commander.
He said according to the police, their key or core function is to ensure that peace prevails in society. Mr. Ali Hussein also noted that the police say, if citizens or people do not steal or smoke wee, or other narcotic drugs, and they do not assault others or cause damage to people’s property etc. there would be peace.
He emphasized that if people comply with all these or the laws there will be peace.
According to Ali Hussein the police have observed that in most or all the cases that come before them in the area, it does not involve chiefs but rather in disciplined youth so if crime is to be controlled effectively our youths who are involved have to be spoken to, to stay away from stealing, causing damage, smoking wee, tramor, snatching bags and being involved in other criminal activities to stop those bad habits.
The Chief’s Secretary continued that if we want peace then those bad nuts have to stop criminal activities mentioned above.
He said one thing about crime is that, when the youth or any one is arrested of any offence and jailed, it affects him or her and their families and even government because it has to spend on the culprits in jail.
He said when the police effect an arrest they investigate and later send the matter to court for prosecution for a judge to apply the laws, and explained for example that in the case of substance abuse like tramor they punishment is serious and that
Court jails accused person to a sentence not less than 10years in prison, and it will affect victims, their families and even government adversely.
He said according to the Police ,to avoid all these things we all have to obey the law, to prevent crime and its consequences, for peace to prevail.
Mr. Ali Hussein noted that it is the prayer of the Police that the youth will not cause violence or any mayhem for their parents and chiefs to be disturbed in any way as when the youths get into trouble it affects their parents.
Touching on the incoming elections Mr. Hussein, noted that the police have observed that mostly during elections, it is our youth’s and macho men that some politicians use to cause violence, and therefore advised that this time around if they engage them , they shouldn’t accept to cause violence or mayhem in any way.
He said personal security is also key, for example it goes to Okada Riders who operate very late in the night, advising them to watch the routes that they use due to activities of robbers and thieves.
Ali Hussein indicated that everyone should keep the police Emergency lines of 191 or 18555 and call them in times of emergency for help.
He also indicated that according to the police the youth should be aware that rape and defilement of young girls in a serious crime that could attract a jail term for so many years ,to avoid it.
He said land guards also have been advised by the police to stop their activities for peace to prevail, urging citizens to help themselves and the police as well for peace to prevail.
During the forum the, NDC Parliamentary Candidate, for Gomoa East; Hon Desmond Paitoo also advised the youth to be law abiding and even called on the chiefs to invite many youths to future programs of this sort.
He said parents have a major responsibility to educate their children and the youth in particular to avoid violence activities else they will be jailed
Hon. Paitoo finally called on the gathering to vote for him and Ex. – Prez John Mahama to get the current situation of Ghanaians changed.
The Chief successfully chalked one year on the Bantama stool during which he led his people to attain many successes.
