High levels of intrigue have engulfed the political scene as revelations emerge of a clandestine plan within the ranks of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its affiliates aimed at thwarting the electoral aspirations of key contenders Alan Kyeremanteng and Nana Kwame Bediako in the upcoming 2024 elections.
Sources have divulged details of a covert operation designed to sideline Alan Kyeremanteng, leader of the Movement for Change Party, and Nana Kwame Bediako, driving the Third Force movement, from the electoral race.
The scheme, orchestrated by elements within the NPP working in concert with the electoral commission, reportedly includes disqualification as the ultimate recourse should persuasion tactics fail to sway the candidates.
Insider information suggests that growing support for Alan Kyeremanteng, a former prominent NPP member now leading the Movement for Change, has raised concerns within the NPP and the current Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.
Party loyalists disenchanted with the current flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, are said to be rallying behind Kyeremanteng, prompting fears of a significant shift in party dynamics.
The core target of the alleged plot is to neutralize the perceived threat posed by Kyeremanteng and Bediako to the NPP’s traditional stronghold in the Ashanti and Eastern regions.
Reports suggest intense pressure tactics are being deployed to coerce Kyeremanteng to abandon his independent campaign and realign with the NPP in support of the Bawumia candidacy.
Alan Kyeremanteng, a staunch NPP loyalist who announced his second resignation from the party following a contentious primary election loss to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has voiced concerns over what he perceives as a deliberate move by the Akufo-Addo administration and the NPP to consolidate power within certain factions at the expense of internal democracy and broader party unity.
President Kufuor’s reported involvement in persuading Kyeremanteng to return to the NPP fold, accompanied by promises of significant financial inducements, underscores the high-stakes nature of the unfolding political drama.
The behind-the-scenes maneuvering to secure Kyeremanteng’s acquiescence highlights the NPP’s mounting desperation to safeguard its electoral prospects amidst internal dissent and wavering party allegiance.
As the 2024 elections draw closer, the standoff between competing factions within the NPP, the emergence of independent candidates like Nana Kwame Bediako, and the reverberations of political power plays set the stage for a tumultuous and unpredictable electoral battle that will shape Ghana’s future leadership landscape.
