Stanbic Bank as part of its corporate social responsibility programme, has presented a cheque of Gh¢200,000 to support Team Ghana in the ongoing African Games being hosted by Ghana.
In a short speech, the Managing Director (MD) for Stanbic Bank, Mr. Kwamena Asomaning pointed out that, the Bank is very pleased to see Ghana hosting the 13th edition of the African Games indicating that Africa is their home and drive Africa grow adding that, driving Africa growth has social, economic and financial, technological with political elements to it.
The matter of sports he indicated, falls under the social category because it has a way of not only driving social satisfaction but also have some economic benefits to the society therefore, the games being held are online with Stanbic purposes.
He emphasized that, the fact that Ghana is looking to promote sports in the sub-region is a caused that Stanbic have identified strongly saying, the Bank is aware of the challenges that faces the country.
The MD expressed appreciations to Government’s effort in investing heavily in the sports facilities and assured of the Bank’s commitment to support sports activities in the country to enable government achieves its aim as far as the ongoing tournament is concerned.
Stanbic he averred, has a long standing history on sports of which the Bank have been supporting in various ways to augment government’s effort hence, the desire to ensure that they expand in diversify the focus on sports.
He thanked the Minister of Sports and organizers of the tournament, for giving Stanbic the opportunity to also contribute their part to support sports.
On his part, the Minister of Youth and Sports. Hon. Mustapha Ussif, on behalf of the President, Team Ghana and the entire nation, thanked management of Stanbic Bank for their support and timely as well.
Ghana’s team the Minister narrated, started camping about 3 months ago and were given all the necessary equipment for training, give them accommodation including feeding which all involves huge cost.
He added further that, over 500 Team Ghana were later moved from Cape Coast to Accra for further camping.
The donation he indicated, would enable Team Ghana players get something into their pocket to boost and motivate their moral. “We know Stanbic contribution when it comes to sports and we want to thank you not only for this African Games. We have been following all your contributions for sports development”.
Hon. Mustapha Ussif,therefore, appealed to other corporate entities to support the ongoing African Games saying, government alone globally, cannot bear the responsibility of a merger sports activities like the African Games.
