*INTIMIDATION OF BAFFOUR OWIREDU AGYARKO MINTA II OF BEGORO FOR ENDORSING H.E. JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA*
Eastern Affairs has sighted an order of summons dated 8th February 2024, from Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council, inviting Baffour Owiredu Agyarko Minta Il for hearing by the council on a petition brought by Daasebre Ofosu Kwabi Ayebiahwe, Okyeame Owusu and Baffour Sakyi Amankwa ll.
The basis of the summon is that Baffour Owiredu Agyarko Minta Il had urged voters in Fanteakwa North constituency to be vigilant to prevent elections malpractices which according to him are mostly perpetrated by the New patriotic party. Baffour Owiredu Agyarko Minta Il used same opportunity to endorse H.E. John Dramani Mahama 24-hour economy policy while attending an NDC #BuildingGhana Tour program which took place in Ahomahomasu.
Eastern Affairs finds the action taken by the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council against Baffour Owiredu Agyarko Minta Ilvery hypocritical. This is because statements of political endorsement has been made in the past by head of Abuakwa Traditional council Amoatia Ofori Payin which openly endorsed H.E. Nana Addo Danquah for his second term bid. That action contravened article 276 of the 1992 constitution retroactively. The attempt by the Abuakwa traditional council to vilify Baffour Owiredu Agyarko Minta ll by claiming that he has dabbled in partisan politics, amounting to a breached of the constitution does not rest on their blossom as a traditional council since they are not cloaked with that authority to initiate any trial against Baffour Owiredu Agyarko Minta Il in relation to any unconstitutionality.
Referencing the above instance of Okyenhene also endorsing H.E. Nana Addo in the past, we at Eastern Affairs wish to implore the traditional council to also look into statements made by Amotia Ofori Payin who also doubles as head of the traditional council to ensure fairness and equity.
Following the creation of awareness and vigilance by Baffour Owiredu Agyarko Minta ll to prevent election malpractice in Fanteakwa North constituency, Eastern Affairs would also want to add our voice to the call for an end to electoral fraud and malpractice in Fanteakwa North constituency to ensure that our democratic principles as a state are always uphold.
