On 27th September 2023, the Welfare Directorate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by Hon. Vida Addae and Mr. William Atamudzi, along with other party members, conducted a working visit to some of the party’s founding members namely UNCLE ATO AHWOI & HON KOFI PORTUPHY

The visitation was to inquire about their health and seek their valuable counsel regarding the operation of the Directorate.

Hon.Vida Addae believes that for the Directorate to function properly, it is important to touch base with key individuals and seek their ideas.

She emphasized that by prioritizing the party members’ welfare, they aim to foster a strong sense of belonging, motivating them to go the extra mile in defending the party and tirelessly working towards the realization of the goal to secure victory in the 2024 general election for His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and the NDC as a whole

She said the Directorate is compiling a list of all cadres, members of the 31st December Women’s Movement, former appointees, and executives to reach out to them

Mr. William Atamudzi, the Deputy Director of Welfare, wholeheartedly affirmed the team’s unwavering dedication to conducting regular visits as part of their ongoing quest for sage advice. He expressed the directorate’s sincere gratitude to Uncle Ato Ahwoi and Hon. Ebenezer Kofi Portuphy for warmly receiving the delegation during their time of reduced political involvement, compared to their previous active roles on the political front lines.

Hon. Kwesi Ahwoi, who was his elder brother during our visit, expressed his commendation for the National Executive Council’s initiative in establishing the Welfare Directorate. He acknowledged that many individuals had felt marginalized and had become reluctant to associate themselves with the party as they once did. However, he firmly believes that this initiative will have a positive impact by altering that perception and narrative. This, in turn, will encourage them to rejoin the party’s ranks, leveraging their valuable experience and in-depth knowledge to contribute to the success and fortunes of the NDC, thereby consolidating its gains.

Both founding members advised the team to work diligently and reach out to other members who may not be in good health. They also mentioned that their doors are always open to the Directorate.

Hon. Benita Sena Okity-Duah and Tony Goodman were also in attendance during the visit.
