The Principal of Government Technical Institute (GTI), Mr. Emmanuel Kwafo Ofei has appealed to government to construct a hostel facilities for the school in other to take care of an increase in enrollment and students who are coming from far places.
He made this known when given a welcome address during the launch of the 55th Anniversary of Government Technical Institute held in Accra.

According to Mr. Emmanuel Kwafo Ofei, a lot of the machines used in training the students are obsolute explaining that, the machines have been in the system since 1968 when the school was established.
“With the increase in the enrollment, there is the need to have modernized equipment to advance in learning and teaching”.
The employability of the students after leaving school Mr. Ofei mentioned, depends on the capacity and skills of the students added that, the fact that one attended the school does not mean he or she would automatically be employed but, it depends on what the student was able to do to meet the standards of the employers.
A lot of the students he averred, have gained employment at the Metro Mass through a 3 year partnership agreement with GIZ and Scania who so far have trained about 20 students as some have even been taking outside the country.
Flooding the Principal revealed, have been a major challenge confronting them school anytime it rains heavenly and calls for support.
He narrated that currently, the school have 185 first year students, 120 second year students and 57 third year students who are passing out saying, the first and second year students are non-fee paying whilst third year students are fee paying.
The name of the Institution has metamorphosed over the years. It was at one time known as the Ominibus Technical Training Centre, Local Government Technical Training Centre, Government Technical Training Centre and ‘now Government Technical Institute.
The primary aim of skills impartation to the Ghanaian Youth has remained the same likewise the mission and vision statements. The Institute currently trains the Ghanaian Youth in the Automotive and its allied trades namely, Welding and Fabrication, Auto Electricals, and Auto Body Repairs to meet the Technical Manpower requirements of the road transport in both formal and informal sectors of the economy. Over the years, the Institute has trained over 8,000 Youth in the road transport sector.
