The Gborbu Wulomo-Shitse, and Overlord of the Gadangme State, Wor-Lumor Konor Nuumo Borketey Larweh Tsuru has appealed to President Akufo-Addo to as a matter of urgency to call the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Henery Quartey to order for interfering in the customary and traditional practice of the Gadangme.

“If he is a real Ga, why is he negotiating with religious bodies on our customary and traditional rites?”.

He made this statement at a press conference organized to express their anger against some Sons and daughters of Gadangme who to him, have allowed political bigotry to get the better of them to lead Public officials and undiscerning traditionalists into appending their signatures to sacrilegious statements composed exponentially in a bid at pleasing practitioners of imported religious while demeaning theirs.

“It is extremely sad and very unfortunate that the Minister of Greater Accra Region, Mr. Henry Quatey, alongside his compatriot, the MCE of Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Mrs. Elizabeth Sackey, led a hurriedly constituted funnily-named Faith Based Organization (FBO) and Regional Co-ordinating Council, among others who are not members of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, orchestrated in a bid at demeaning existing customary laws of the Gadangme people. Such a shame and sacrilege will forever linger for posterity that once upon a time, prominent Ga indigenes were at the forefront in an attempt at soiling our age-old customary practices that our forefathers had cherished and upheld “.

According to Gborbu Wulomo, the decisions by the Regional House of Chiefs which touched on the crux of the laws of the land of the Gadangmes, especially the ban on drumming and noisemaking, cannot be binding on them saying, that function is only within the remit of the Gborbu Wulomo-Shitse, the Overlord of the Gadangme State, Nai and other Wulomei who are custodians of Gadangme cultural and traditional rites.

“The fact is that the Regional House of Chiefs does not have the authority to make and unmake laws relating to ban on drumming and noisemaking. They do not have the mandate also to make decisions that bother on the regulations on banning of noisemaking “.

He disclosed that, the supposed meeting held at Dodowa by the Regional House of Chiefs is a colossal undermining and disrespect to their offices as the only mandated persons when it comes to the subject matter in question.

“I therefore, assert without fear or favour that the decisions held at the said meeting is invalid, null and void and must be treated with contempt”.

He further warned that, they would never condoned and countenance any attempt to rubbishing Gadangme customs and traditions.

“If the current civic, political, religious and educational heads who are Gas are not ready to fight for Gas for whatever reasons, we the people, will not stand aloof to watch Ga die slowly. You can’t do that to any Islamic religion or even do that to Christian religion and tell them how they should fast and pray. Why are they doing that to us as Gadangme? Are they taking our leniency as our weakness? “.

Gborbu Wulomo averred that, as law makers of their customs and traditions, they distance themselves from any decision taken at the meeting held at the offices of the Regional House of Chiefs on Thursday 25th May, 2023. “We shall not relent in our effort in ensuring that the laws relating to the ban on drumming and noisemaking are adhered to the latter. By our believes we dare you to challenge us on our customs and traditional rites “.

He however, asked if indeed the Greater Accra Regional Minister is really a Ga and from which House in Ga Mashie.

He also wanted to know if the Faith Based Organization are more superior than the registered Christian Council of Ghana.
