The Chairman of First Sky Group and also, an Old student of Kpando Secondary school (KPASEC), Mr. Eric Seddy Kutortse has stated that, the development of any school should be the concerned of all old students.
He therefore, called on the old students of KPASEC to come and give back to their Alma mater.
Mr. Eric Seddy Kutortse made this known when speaking as a Guest Peaker during the launch of Kpando Secondary School (KPASEC) 70th Anniversary held in Accra on the theme, “Quality Education: A Collective Responsibility”.
According to Mr. Kutortse, it is the pride that comes with being associated with a particular school that drives an individual to do things for their Alma mater.
He disclosed that, some of the school resources have not seen any major changes adding that, apart from the roads and some of the dormitory blocks, the classroom blocks remain the same over the years yet, the population of the school continues to increase in geometric progression causing wear and tear on the existing facilities.
KPASEC’s growth throughout the 70 years he indicated, has seen a remarkable and phenomenal increase from a population of only 9 boys to over three thousand students of both sexes with boarding facilities.
“So what really pushes old students to support their former school? What makes them go back to invest in its progress? Why should they invest in people are not related to and may not meet anywhere in later life? Why would an old student who lives abroad be so much interested in what happens in their former school to the point of supporting projects in the school?”
He pointed out that, there are challenges in every student’s life including punishment like dismissals, suspensions both internal and external, and many other forms of punishment.
“Most TSITSIAWO who had to deal with some of these challenges feel they were unfairly punishment by some school authorities during their time as students. In fact, there is still a category of them who are still disgruntled and continue to recount their experiences”.
Mr. Eric Seddy Kutortse however revealed that, the Old students of KPASEC have contributed from modest to major resources to the school among which he mentioned include construction and tarring of internal roads on the entire campus, provision of tennis court for both staff and students.
Others are, the provision of a modern signboard, learning resources including Computers, Books, Projectors, refurbishment of Classrooms and staff common room as well as a National Science and Maths Quiz Centre.
He call upon year groups, individuals, families, associates and friends of Kpando Secondary school to come together to support the Anniversary in diverse ways soy that they can chat a new cause for their Alma mater.
“This is the time for new and greater things. This is the time to raise the flag of KPASEC higher. It is the time to uphold the virtues of Light and Truth. This is time to arise and March forward”.
