The ongoing limited registration has so far registered more women than men. Out of the total figure of 251,149 newly registered, the Commission has registered 135, 898 (54.11 per cent) women as compared to, 115,251 (45.89 per cent) represented males.
The Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission in-charge of Corporate Services, Dr Bossman Eric Asare at a press conference further disclosed that, Greater Accra region has registered 33,899 voters (13.5 per cent); North East, 6,928 (2.8 per cent); Upper East, 10,646 (4.2 per cent); Northern, 19,491 (7.8 per cent); Bono, 8.972 (3.6 per cent); Bono East, 9, 681 (3.9 per cent); Volta, 12,190 (4.9 per cent) and Upper West, 8,474 (3.4 per cent).
The rest are, Eastern, 25, 625 (10.2 per cent); Central, 27, 984 (11.1 per cent), and Ahafo, 6, 273 (2.5 per cent); Ashanti, 44,232 (17.6 per cent), Western North; 9,134 (3.6 per cent); Oti; 7, 259 (2.9 per cent); Savannah 5, 261 (2.1 per cent); and Western Region, 15,100 (6.0 per cent).
Dr Bossman Asare pointed out that, 98, 926 applicants constituting 39.39 percent in the first five days of the registration exercise, used the Ghana Card while 622 applicants, representing 0.25 per cent used the passport.
He averred that, 151,601 applicants used the guarantor system, representing 60.36 percent saying, out of a total of 2,935 challenges cases, Greater Accra Region recorded the highest challenged cases of 524.
Dr. Bossman however, condemned political parties that are making the attempt to smuggle minors at the various registration centers likewise foreigners.
He also entreated all political party agents to use the appropriate process, by filling a challenge form against anybody suspected to be a minor or foreigner instead of engaging in physical fight that leads to violence at the centres.
Dr. Bossman therefore, appealed to parents to prevent their wards below 18 years from registering saying, the law would dealt drastically with whoever is found culprits.
