As part of customary rites towards the celebration of this year’s Homowo festival, the Ga Traditional Council has institued a ban on Noise-making in Accra from 6th May to 6th June, 2024.
The general public is to abide by the regulations during the period to uphold peace, harmony, and security within the Ga State.
The guidelines for Noise-making banning activities, include clapping of hands, use of musical instruments and any related noise created actions of
placement of loudspeakers outside religious premises.
The Traditional Council has set up a task force, in collaboration with REGSEC and various Metropolitan, Municipal, District Assemblies, to work alongside the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to ensure compliance and prosecute any violations.
The Council however, demand the cooperation of all stakeholders especially, religious leaders in upholding Ga customs, practices, and traditions.
The Traditional Council further urged all residents of the Ga State to honor the month-long ban on drumming and noise making and refrain from disparaging remarks regarding the customs, practices, and beliefs of the Ga people. “Our traditions and culture are integral to our identity and are cherished deeply”.
The 13th day of June 2024, signify the “ODADAA” (lifting of the ban on drumming and noise making). This celebratory occasion would be hosted at the forecourt of the Gbese Mantse’s Palace (Gbese Blohum) and the Ga Mantse Stool house.
