Metro Mass Using “TAP N’ GO” Technology To Block Revenue Leakages

The number one leading provider of public transportation services in Ghana, Metro Mass Transit Limited, has introduced a new technology called “TAP N’ GO” to block revenue Leakages.

In his address, the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia pointed out that, the TAP N’ GO” transport service for Metro Mass, is another landmark to Ghana’s digital journey and the quest for a cashless society added that, it is the government latest digital initiative for the transport sector.

Ghana’s public transport system, the Vice President Bawumia indicated, is faced with several challenges notably the delays at lorry stations, inability to identify passengers when accident occurs, corruption and inability to effectively monitor vehicle activities and financial performance of vehicles”.

He further pointed out that, there is lack of access to credit due to inability of banks to verify revenue performance because issues with transparency and accountability.

Steps the Vice President mentioned, are underway to expand its use to other forms of public transport, including commercial buses known as trotros, which in his view, will particularly reduce mistrust between drivers, mates and between car owners and drivers.
According to Vice President, with the introduction of ‘Tap ‘n’ Go technology, vehicle owners would be getting their accurate sales and also able to know the whereabout of their cars at any given time through tracking .

He disclosed that, plans are far advance to purchase 100 new buses for Metro Mass with cameras fixed in them to monitor activities of drivers and also, to know the exact number of people on each bus per every trip.
“The problem with the diversion of funds within state-owned intercity and intracity buses will also be a thing of the past, as it will help check corruption by promoting transparency”.

The Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit Limited, Mr. Albert Adu Boahen in his welcome address expressed his determination to drive Metro Mass into a future by modernizing the system and processes of the company.

“One area that engaged my attention and stood up for improvement was our out-moded manual ticketing which was time consuming prone to errors and no longer meet the needs of our customers in today’s world”.

The manual ticketing he indicated, has been his major nightmare in his term to fight revenue leakages. “This necessitated the need for a strongest and a more robust system that will stand the test of time as well as our revenue generation is concerned”.

Mr. Albert Adu Boahen averred that, the, “TAP N’ GO” system offer customers the option to pay through mobile money, making advance booking before arriving at Metro Mass bus terminals.

The new system Mr.Adu Boahen stated, would streamline the entire ticketing process and avoid certain inconveniences such as waiting for longer period.
