The Concerned National Executive Council (NEC) of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has stated categorically that, Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankuma remains the Chair and Leader of the Party. “Her firm stance against resigning was explicitly stated during the NEC meeting and meticulously recorded in the meeting’s minutes. According to them claims suggesting her removal are baseless and hold no legitimacy within the party’s framework”.
Addressing the media, the Greater Accra CPP Regional Secretary and a Concerned National Executive Council Members , Mr. Kool Mensah Frimpong pointed out that, he, stands for justice, integrity, and the party’s constitution.
He revealed that, the CPP constitution does not acknowledge or endorse any body akin to an “Interim Council” saying, such a creation is a direct violation of the party’s constitution and stands as an affront to the principles upon which the party was founded.
“Let us not be misled or swayed by voices claiming authority but lacking the foundation of legitimacy. The only recognized entity empowered to speak on behalf of our party is the National Chair and Leader in accordance with our constitution — since our General Secretary and some of the executives have resigned “.
Mr. Mensah therefore, called on all members of the Convention People’s Party to maintain faith and trust in Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumankuma’s leadership because she remains dedicated to the party’s activities and has provided clear directives for the reorganization of upcoming internal elections leading to the 2024 general elections.
He averred that, in the process of the agitation to remove the National Executives including the Chair and Leader, the representative of the Party’s Council of Elders — Senior Comrade Christian Yao Zigah, who was present at the NEC meeting, spoke on the floor and advised that what they sought to do was in complete violation of the party constitution.
“It is instructive to note that after the NEC meeting, Senior Comrade Christian Yao Zigah wrote a release to the press to affirm his earlier position that what was happening on the floor of the NEC meeting was illegal and outside the constitution of the CPP as per the attached press release”.
Mr. Mensah Frimpong however, suggested the need for all CPP members to uphold the values and letter of the party’s constitution and reject any attempt to deviate from the established rules and regulations that safeguard the principles. “It is our suggestion that all those who spearheaded this blatant disregard for party rules and constitutional provisions should be made to face disciplinary action by the laid down party procedures. We must stand united against any attempt to disrupt this unity”.
