The Evangelical Lutheran Church annual celebration of its Reformation Day was used to reward some deserving Teachers and Saff across the country.

The Church also use the occasion to organize a Bible quiz competition for all their schools across the country.

Reformation Day under the Lutheran calendar, is a special day to remember and reflect upon the historical and theological significance of the Protestant Reformation.

When Martin Luther saw that the Roman Catholic Church was hiding the gospel truth from the people and Christians are saved by the grace and not by works he disagree with authorities as a Priest and was driven away from the church.

Martin Luther was then declared wanted by the church and he came out with 95 wrong doings he has found out and nail it at the entrance of the church called the 95 Theses and escaped to a hidden place.

Martin Luther at his hide out started to translate the Bible into his own language (German) and to other languages and his followers became Lutheran church.

The 95 Theses expressed his concerns over corruption found in the Catholic church. One of his primary concerns was the church selling “indulgences” to people in order to release them from having to serve penitence for their sins.

An act that he considered as inappropriate for people to buy their way into heaven. This act opened up a debate with religious scholars leading to the Protestant Reformation.

In an interview, the Director of Lutheran Schools, Mr. Joseph Lanbon revealed that, there have been much improvement in the performance of teachers in Lutheran schools since the introduction of the award scheme for teachers, whose students attained aggregate 2 in their subjects.

He averred that at Lutheran schools, they do not indoctrinate childretrrfn or forced them to learn lutheran teachings but rather, teach them the basic Christian morals.

According to him, each year just as in the 31st December, the church embarked on resolution for new things added that, reformation is a period for the church and the children to reform their lives for good things ahead of them, to plan ahead things they want to see positively and do away with the negative things.

He said at the moment, they have 6 Lutheran schools running which comprises St. Paul’s Lutheran school from Accra, Holy Trinity Lutheran school from Kumasi, St. Peter’s Lutheran school from Madina, All Saints Lutheran school from Anyaah, Trinity Lutheran school from Tema, St. Andrew Lutheran from Bungrugu at the North East Region while two schools are under construction.

He said they are hoping that by the end of the year Lutheran church would have 9 schools running.

The awards scheme he stated, is a motivation to the teachers saying, recognizing teachers in public for their good work is a self motivation and it keep them to do more.

The awards presented for both teachers and students at the Reformation Day include, table top fridges, television sets, books for the school children, School bags, certificates and other items.

About 12 teachers received an award based on BECE performance whilst another 7 awards was based on general performance.
Holy Trinity Lutheran school from Kumasi last year, won the Bible quiz competition organized for the various schools while the host school St. Paul, placed second.

However, in this year 2023 competition, St. Paul Lutheran school from Kanda in Accra, became the winner at the end of the Bible quiz competition while, Holy Trinity Lutheran school from Kumasi, placed second this time round.
