The Chiefs and people of Kantsean Electoral Area in the Okai Koi South Constituency are demanding for an immediate unqualified apology from the Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Dakoa Newman for developmental failure and also, the inconveniences of the hazardous spread of gravels on uncompleted parts of roads commenced by the NDC administration with asphaltic overlay.
“Surprisingly we woke up one morning and saw a group of young – men calling themselves “DARKOA CONTRACTORS” with wheelbarrows and spreading gravels on our roads, notably parts of FREMPONG-WE and AGO OKUNAJO. In fact the youth in this area had wanted to stop this insensitive, needless and useless rehabilitation which nearly resulted into violence but with the intervention of some opinion leaders, we were able to bring the situation under control. Hon. Darkoa Newman has resorted to spreading gravels on the uncompleted parts of the roads which commenced with asphaltic overlay. Surprisingly, the roads were not even leveled to ensure that commuters will have a smooth passage on it. The gravels have been spread on surfaces with large and multiple potholes, increasing travelling time on it”.
This came to light at a press conference organized to express the numerous probiems affecting their electoral area especially roads and drainage systems in Kantsean Electoral Area popularly known as Bubiashie Ayigbe Town, which is among the eight (8) electoral areas within the Okai Koi South Constituency.
Addressing the press, Hon. Emmanuel Nii Sakum Korle, the Former Assembly Member of Kantsean on behalf of the Chiefs and people, called on Hon. Darkoa Newman to as a matter of urgency tasks her wheelbarrow contractors to collect all the gravels on the roads within two weeks and put it into profitable use than the nuisance is creating for users and residents.
They suggest it’s use for the construction of an abandoned school block at the North School Compound.
They also called Hon. Dakoa Newman to immediately, show them her road-map for the roads and drains within the Electoral Area.
“If Hon. Darkua Newman, our MP fails this simple call, we will embark on serious demonstration against her until we get our fair share of the National Cake. This is because Kantsean deserves better roads and good drainage system”.

KANTSEAN DESERVES GOOD ROADS AND DRAINAGE SYSTEM.
Good morning ladies and gentlemen of the press and the good people of Kantsean. Thank you for honoring our invitation to present to you our numerous probiems affecting our electoral rea especially roads and drainage systems in Kantsean Electoral Area popularly known as Bubiashie Ayigbe Town, one of the eight (8) electoral areas within the Okai Koi South Constituency.
About a month ago we had a hint that our MP, Hon. Darkua Newman had got good message for us in relation to road construction and drainage systems so we were happy because we thought the resurfacing project was going to be continued.
On or around 2015, the NDC Government started a Resurfacing of Roads Project in the Greater Accra Region to ensure smooth transport system within the urban centers of Accra. Kantsean Fiectorat area saw the commencement of the project in parts of its environs until the NPP government took over power in 2016 bringing a halt to the project. With the project having commenced in part before the assumption of our MP, Hon. Darkoa Newman into office, one would have thought that she will lobby for the continuation of same since the total project had already been earmarked and budget allocated for same by the NDC government before election 2016.

Again, the gravels are causing damages to the windscreens of vehicles which ply them as well as posing threats of injury to pedestrians who may be walking on the shoulders of the road. It is surprising that our MP who should have foreseen these hazards that her project is causing is continually expanding same across the Electoral Area.
Ladies and gentlemen, painfully, instead of Hon. Darkua Newman apologizing to the good people of Kantsean Electoral Area for bringing harmful materials on our roads, she has rather printed a banner with her photograph with the caption, “Rehabilitation of Frempong-We and Ago Okunajo streets amongst others”. In fact we the people of Kantsean received this massage as an insult and we need nothing short of an apology.
Ladies and gentlemen, in July 2023, the residents approached Mr. Ernest Adomako (Keon), the Parliamentary Candidate of the NDC to help them repair their broken drain. Mr. Adomako wholeheartedly accepted their request and quickly brought Engineers to the site for the commencement of the work. It would interest you to know that as soon as the work started, our MP, Hon. Darkua Newman organized some youth groups to stop the work. It took the intervention of the residents to stop the youth group from such an unnecessary and needless act. She further promised the residents her readiness to fix the road for them immediately. But surprisingly after Mr. Adomako had finished the work on the drain, Hon. Darkua Newman as usual brought her concrete stones to fill the ‘manholes’ on the road and claimed she has rehabilitated the said road. In fact this shows that our MP is an enemy to our development.
Ladies and gentlemen, in another instance, residents along the P & T road also part of Kantsean electoral area appealed to Hon. Darkua Newman about the deplorable nature of that road and the need to fix it in 2021. As her usual character to development, she totally failed to hear their plea and left them in the mess without acknowledging their request.
Ladies and gentlemen with all these problems mentioned above our MP Hon. Darkua Newman has turned deaf ears to our pleas. In fact she shows no concern to our plight at all as people.
We are at this juncture calling on our MP Hon Darkua Newman to do the following as a matter of urgency:
1. To render an unqualified apology to the good people of Kantsean for her developmental failure and the inconveniences we have suffered since she brought this hazardous materials to our community.
2. AS matter of urgency she should come and collect all the gravels on our roads within two weeks. We are of the view that she can use these materials for the construction of an abandoned school block at the North School Compound.
3. She should immediately show us her road-map for our roads and drains within the Electoral Area since she has not constructed a meter of drain since she took office as an MP.
If Hon. Darkua Newman, our MP fails this simple call, we will embark on serious demonstration against her until we get our fair share of the National Cake. This is because Kantsean deserves better roads and good drainage system.
It is our fervent hope that Hon Darkua Newman will do the honorable thing to foster the unity we have had with previous Viemhers af Parliament.
