The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, has charged fellow members of the Global Group of Heads of State and Governments, to continue to showcase national and international actions on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and Sustainable Development Goals to leverage the collective efforts to inspire and support global actions.
“As members of the Global Group of Heads of State and Governments, We need to do more, and the time is now”.
This statement was made by Hon. Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, Minister for Health, when deliver an opening remark on behalf of President Akufo Addo at the second gathering of the Global Group of Heads of State and Government’s on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
The NCDs President Akufo-Addo mentioned, continues to be a public health threat that requires concerted efforts, great investments, and prioritization to put countries back on course towards achieving global targets. “As we inch towards 2030, we need to commit to developing practicable and ambitious national responses to the overall implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”.
The Global Group of Heads of State and Government’s a year ago, held their first gathering of HOSG on the margins of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly. During the meeting, they collectively agreed to do what was necessary to fulfil the five specific time-bound commitments contained in the Global NCD Compact 2020-2030.
They However adopted terms of reference that defined how their respective countries can fulfil the five specific time bound commitments through the Engagement, Acceleration, Investment, Alignment and Accounting for actions on NCDs towards achieving related SDG.
